The Ghia L6.4 is a luxury coupé produced between 1961 and 1963 by Italian coachbuilder Ghia, based on Chrysler mechanicals. Designed by Virgil Exner, then Chrysler’s head of design, it was entirely hand-built, with only 26 units ever made.
The chassis was sourced from the Chrysler 300, while the body was crafted in steel. Under the hood, it featured a 6.3-liter V8 engine (383 cubic inches) delivering approximately 335 hp, paired with a three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. The suspension setup included independent front wheels and a rear live axle with leaf springs.
The interior was finished in high-quality leather with custom panels and dashboard, and came equipped with power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning—advanced features for the era. Each unit was built to order, with waiting times exceeding nine months.
The Ghia L6.4 stands as one of the last examples of close collaboration between Chrysler and Italian coachbuilders before large-scale industrial production took over. One of the most famous owners was Dean Martin, who purchased a car in 1962.
Today, the L6.4 is highly sought after by collectors and occasionally appears at auctions, with prices reflecting its rarity and historical value.
